Welcome to your Turkish Business Council’s June update.
We started the month with great momentum and ended with us saying goodbye and thank you to one TBC Chair and Board of Directors and warmly welcoming the incumbent Chair and Board.
Our members cast their votes in order to elect the new president of the Turkish Business Council, which was conducted online, with an aim to achieve a participation rate of 75% of our total membership, as per the requirements of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce. We are delighted to share that we successfully achieved a remarkable participation rate of approximately 77%.
We can now announce the new President and congratulate him on his new position and wish him a successful presidency tenure that is sure to leave a lasting impact.
Introducing the brand-new President of Turkish Business Council, Mr. Kanat Kutluk.
Kanat Kutluk is a corporate and social entrepreneur with business interests ranging from Chemicals to Food industries alongside his participation in significant social & community programs.
He is an alumni of INSEAD Global Executive MBA Program, has a Bachelor of Arts Diploma in Political Science & International Relations from University of Istanbul and a Master of Arts Diploma of Economics from Marmara University. He is a strong believer that the power of communication and coordination leads any team to overachievement. Kanat is recognised as a result oriented dynamic personality, as well as a good listener and a reliable partner. He has built his career within the regions of Africa, Middle East, Central Asia, Turkey and the Subcontinent where he has served over 25 years. He has been living in Dubai for the past 17 years, serving the community as the Vice President of Turkish Business Council in Dubai and Northern Emirates in the last two terms.
TBC HANDOVER CEREMONY AND NETWORKING EVENT
We extend our heartfelt thanks to the former Chairwoman of Turkish Business Council Fatma Nilgun Emrem and former Board of Directors of the Turkish Business Council for their exemplary leadership and contributions during their successful tenure. We warmly welcome the new Chairman, Kanat Kutluk and the new Board of Directors, and wish them great success as we embark on a new era together.
To commemorate this significant transition, we organised a celebratory dinner at the Shangri-La Hotel in Dubai joined by singer Muge Okten, whose performance allowed us to enjoy the evening alongside our members' networking activity. We express gratitude to the Consul General, Attachés, and all our members, dear friends, and volunteers for their attendance and continued support.

19th May / Basketball Meeting and Volleyball Meeting
The 19 May Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day celebrations, organised under the auspices of the Dubai Consulate and with the support of the Turkish Business Council, started with the first match of the basketball tournament on May 12th, 2023 and finished on June 11th,2023 with the final match of the volleyball tournament.
The basketball tournament was held over 5 weeks, with 22 teams and 207 participants, including 14 women and 52 youth participants. 37 matches were played, with an average age of 32 and a height average of 178.9 cm! In the Men’s category, team Hatay won first place, team Amasya came second, and team Bandırma came in third place - Congratulations to all our winners and participants!
The volleyball tournament was held over 2 weeks, with 10 teams and 88 participants. 14 out of 88 were youth participants. 22 matches were played, with an average age of 36 and a height average of 174cm. Team Erzurum won first place, team Kahramanmaraş came second, and team Samsun came in third place - Congratulations to all winners and participants!
It was a real pleasure to see so many mother, father, son and daughter participants in all the sports meetings - fully in the spirit of the 19th May!
The matches, as well as the ceremonies were held with such enthusiasm from both the spectators, participating families and supporters. We thank all the participants, especially the finalists, and our young athletes, from all the meetings where friendship and solidarity were the true winners.
We also wholeheartedly congratulate our athletes who won individual awards at both the basketball and volleyball tournaments and wish them every continued success.
We would also like to thank the sponsors and supporters of the event who played such an important role in making it happen, and the overwhelming success of the meetings.
The Turkish Consulate General and Turkish Business Council were invited to the Ertebaat meeting held by Dubai Customs. The meeting was attended by H.E. Onur Saylan, the Turkish Consul General, commercial attachés, and board representatives from the Turkish Business Council (TBC).
Meeting With Turkish Ambassador H.E. Tugay Tuncer
The newly elected board members of the Turkish Business Council along with the new chairman Mr. Kanat Kutluk visited the ambassador of Türkiye, H.E Tugay Tuncer at the Turkish Embassy in Abu Dhabi.
Both parties exchanged ideas for future activities that will benefit and develop the Turkish community in the UAE. We are thankful to H.E’s leadership and appreciating the courtesy extended during our visit.

The newly elected Vice President of the Turkish Business Council, Mr. Timur Ilgaz, and the board members Mr. İdris Demirhan, Mr. Mehmet Sirin Akyuz, Mr. Okan Kızılırmak, and Mr. Tarık Tamimi visited the Turkish Consul General, H.E. Onur Saylan, at his office.
Meeting with Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek
We expressed our gratitude to Mr. Mehmet Şimşek for resuming his role as Minister of Treasury and Finance in the 67th government. We appreciate his time during his Dubai visit, and conveyed well wishes from the Dubai Turkish business community. We also met with Mr. Can Dizdar, Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the Middle East and North Africa, and Mr. Ali Demirhan, brother of our board member Mr. İdris Demirhan. Our commitment remains strong in enhancing economic relations between Turkey and the UAE.

Pharma, Medical and Device Sector Professionals Working in the UAE Come Together
Calling all valued professionals in the Pharma, Devices, and Medical Sector operating in the UAE.
In coordination with our Dubai Consulate General and the Turkish Business Council, we aim to establish a platform that brings together professionals from the Pharma, Devices, and Medical companies operating in the UAE, organised and led by industry experts. This platform aims to unite professionals who hold UAE residency and are citizens of the Republic of Turkey or of Turkish origin residing in other countries. Its main focus will be professional communication, networking, and knowledge sharing.
In this regard, we are planning to gather professionals from the mentioned sectors under the hosting of our Consul General, Mr. Onur Saylan. Following this introductory meeting, we aim to progress with periodic networking events, seminars, and information sharing sessions. Financial and Banking Sector Meeting with Turkish Consul General H.E. Onur Saylan
The Turkish Consulate General in Dubai brought together the Financial and Banking Professionals working within Dubai and the Northern Emirates. It was a pleasure to see our distinguished financial and banking professionals from the TBC membership amongst the attendees.
Turkish Breakfast Day at Huqqabaz Jumeirah
We came together to celebrate World Turkish Breakfast Day with the Turkish Business Council under the auspices of the Consulate General of Dubai. The event took place on Sunday, June 4, 2023, at Huqqabaz Restaurant, Jumeirah with special prices.
Starcamp Seminar
21 IT companies operating in the fields of Smart Cities and Fintech under StarCamp met with the Trade Delegation of the Service Exporters Association. With the participation of Dubai Trade Attachés, Mr. Ersoy Erbay and Mr. Hacı Hasan Kaygısız, we listened to Mr. Hürol Karlı, the Head of the Department of Informatics, Software, Digital, and Communication Services at the Ministry of Trade, regarding state incentives and the advantages of the UTPO Office.
While Starcamp Dubai Office Operations Manager Feryal Mahmut and YTU Yıldız Technopark Director of International Relations and Investor Relations Baran Kılıçer provided important information about Starcamp Dubai UTPO Office, DWTC Representative Mr. Shams SYED provided information on company establishment processes and Free Zone privileges.
Mr. İlhan Bağören, CEO of HIB (Service Exporters Association) Board of Directors and Telenity, Mr. Tuna Vehaplar Kartal, MEA&APAC Regional Sales Director of Dubai V-Count Technology, and Mr. Ethem Eldem, Managing Partner of CANMAR Trading & Consultancy, as well as our board member Mr. Ersoy Erkazancı, shared their experiences about Dubai's software and IT market. The president of TBC, Mr. Kanat Kutluk, provided information about TBC and its purposes.

The Turkish Business Council, in collaboration with our knowledge member, Uphuman, presented a webinar on Personal Branding. Participants had the opportunity to join the Personal Branding webinar and gain insights on creating a strong and influential professional image that distinguishes them from competitors.
During this highly interactive webinar, attendees explored the significance of personal branding in achieving career success. They identified key elements of personal branding and learned how to establish credibility and trust by embodying their brand.
